Distrikter ADELAIDE HILLS This region is a veritable maze of valleys and glens, and with a criss-cross of slopes which offer every conceivable aspect, micro-climate variations are endless. But this is what makes the region both charming, and strikingly beautiful, whilst also being challenging. Altitudes vary between around 350m above sea level to the peak of Mt Lofty at 700m. This ensures a much cooler and wetter climate than the plains of Adelaide and McLaren Vale, and is ideal for the production of classically structured and intensely flavoured white wines. Temperatures are generally 5- 8°C cooler than McLaren Vale, and rainfall is almost double. It is one of the finest regions for the production of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
